We continue to accelerate our sustainability efforts and taking important steps to reduce our climate footprint. Through innovation, strategic investments, and close collaboration with customers and suppliers, we strengthen our role as a driving force in the sustainable transition.
In the Sustainability Information Report 2025, we share the progress made in turning our vision – Building a more sustainable society – into action. The report highlights our work to reduce emissions in line with science-based targets, strengthen responsible procurement and supply chain transparency, and invest in the development and wellbeing of our employees.
Our sustainability strategy focuses on four key areas: Environment, Procurement, People & Culture, and Business Development – all supporting our long-term ambition to create value for customers, society, and future generations.
We are committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain. Our climate targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
Sustainability is a central part of our strategy, Growth that Matters. By working closely with suppliers and customers, we aim to reduce emissions across the entire value chain while accelerating the transition to more sustainable products and solutions.
Focusing on product footprint
The majority of Ahlsell’s climate impact occurs outside our own operations, in the manufacturing and use of the products we sell. Providing transparent environmental data for our products is therefore a key priority.
By improving access to climate and sustainability information, we enable our customers to make more informed purchasing decisions and support their own sustainability reporting. This work includes developing environmental product declarations (EPDs) for private label products, strengthening supplier dialogue and product requirements, and building digital systems that make environmental data easier to share and use.
Ahlsell’s company-wide climate targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aligned with the ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
Long-term target – Net zero by 2045
Ahlsell is committed to reducing absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2045, compared with a 2022 base year. Remaining emissions will be neutralised to reach net-zero across the value chain.
Near-term targets – 2030
Ahlsell commits to reducing:
Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 75%
Scope 3 emissions by 42%
Both targets are measured against a 2022 base year.
The chart illustrates how Ahlsell’s climate impact is distributed across the value chain according to the GHG Protocol, based on the climate assessment conducted with 2022 as the baseline year.
Scope 1
Direct emissions from sources that Ahlsell controls, such as company vehicles and on-site fuel use.
Scope 2
Indirect emissions from the energy we purchase, including electricity, heating and cooling.
Scope 3
All other indirect emissions in Ahlsell’s value chain. This includes emissions from suppliers during production, transportation, waste, business travel and – most significantly – emissions from the use of the products we sell.
Together with customers and suppliers, we drive sustainable business development with a strong focus on quality, resource efficiency and circularity. Through innovation, close collaboration and improved climate data for our products, we are making more sustainable solutions the natural first choice.
By increasing transparency across our value chain and sharing product-specific environmental information, we enable customers to reduce their climate footprint and make more informed data-driven decisions.
Strategic goals for sustainable business
Sustainable business development is one of the focus areas in Ahlsell’s sustainability strategy. Our overarching goal is to continuously increase the share of sales from sustainable products and services.
We develop and offer product alternatives with improved environmental performance, including more offerings featuring repair, spare parts, reuse and other services that extend the useful life of products and save resources.
High demands on product quality
Products of good quality that function and last as planned are the foundation for user safety, resource efficiency and a more sustainable business. We want our customers to feel confident that the products they buy from Ahlsell are of good quality and safe to use.
Environmentally approved products
Ahlsell offers a wide range of products environmentally approved in accordance with different standards, including the Swedish Building Materials Assessment. Environmental approval makes it easier for construction and property customers to choose building materials based on environmental and health aspects and is also necessary to be able to environmentally certify buildings in accordance with the BREEAM, Miljöbyggnad, LEED and DGNB systems.
Responsible sourcing remains a cornerstone of Ahlsell’s sustainability strategy. In a rapidly evolving global landscape, we continuously strengthen responsible business practices and integrate ethical, social and environmental considerations into our procurement processes.
Through close collaboration with suppliers, we reduce risks, increase transparency and support the development of more sustainable products and solutions. Our ambitions is to build long-term partnerships based on trust, mutual respect and shared commitments to responsible business conduct.
Supply chain Due Diligence
structured approach to due diligence is essential for managing risks in the supply chain. Ahlsell’s due diligence processes are aligned with the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct and the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct.Through risk assessments, ongoing supplier dialogue and on-site audits, we work to identify, prevent and mitigate potential negative impacts on people, society and the environment. This framework helps us strengthen transparency and continuously improve sustainability performance across our supplier network.
Strengthening compliance and governance
The regulatory landscape for sustainability and trade compliance is evolving rapidly. Ahlsell therefore works proactively to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and international standards.
During the year, we further strengthened our governance framework, including updates to our Trade Compliance Policy and Code of Conduct. These policies support our commitment to responsible business practices, covering areas such as business ethics, human rights, sanctions compliance and responsible supply chain management.
In combination with an attractive offering, it is our skilled and serviceminded employees who make Ahlsell a value-adding company in a changing world. We place great emphasis on being an attractive workplace, where every employee can develop and feel proud. A healthy and safe work environment, an inclusive culture and ongoing investments in leadership and skills development are important elements in ensuring that every employee can grow with us.
A strategy for people and growth
Our work to be an attractive, developmental workplace is based on an ambitious overarching goal: “The best time in your working life”. The strategic work focuses on four areas: People Attraction, People Growth, Diversity and Inclusion, and Improvement & Innovation.
Guided by our values
At Ahlsell, we are truly living by our values in our day-to-day work. They provide guidance in decision-making and in shaping the attitudes we have towards each other, our customers and our business partners. Our values are included in the introduction of new employees. We follow up on the perception of compliance in employee appraisals and in our employee and customer surveys.
High level of employee engagement
We measure engagement, leadership, organisational development and the perception of our corporate culture through regular employee surveys. In the latest survey, the Engagement Index reached 75 and the Leadership Index 82, indicating a continued strong commitment among employees and confidence in our leadership.
The Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) was 38, which remains a strong result and indicates a high level of employee loyalty and willingness to recommend Ahlsell as a workplace.
* The eNPS, employee net promoter score, is measured on a scale of -100 to +100. The eNPS is influenced by many factors and varies between different industries and countries; a result above +30is generally considered very good.
Caring for the environment is mostly about the future, making sure that we take every measure possible to ensure a better tomorrow. But sometimes you might want to look back as well.
